UK's first Leeds-based arbitrator
Partner and founder Peter Jones will take on the role of an 'informal judge' and determine outcomes of divorce settlements after becoming the first qualified arbitrator in Leeds and one of only three in Yorkshire.
Mr Jones, a former deputy judge for fifteen years, will make judgements on cases where both parties are seeking a clean break which avoids the trauma of court. The main benefits are:
- The parties/representatives control the process, choosing their arbitrator
- It is quicker and more efficient than court
- Matters are dealt with confidentially; press are not allowed
- The situation is less stressful and undertaken in more informal surroundings
- Meetings are arranged at the clients' convenience and at a venue of their choice

There has been much media discussion about the use of mediation to resolve family disputes. For some firms, this will require a radical departure from their usual approach. At Jones Myers LLP, however, we have for years recognised that there is more than one way to crack a nut – or a difficult family law issue.
