A big shoutout to our Partner, Liz Bell who has braved thunder, lightning, sheeting rain, strong winds and hailstones to tackle Yorkshire’s iconic Three Peaks challenge for an inspirational cause.

Liz was among a group of inspirational fundraisers who ascended the heady 5,000-feet heights of Pen y Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough.

Despite the toughest climate conditions, Liz and her husband Julian completed the 25-mile hike 45 minutes under the allocated 12-hour deadline.

Organised by our charity partner, Henshaws, all monies raised from the walk will boost the quality of life for over 7,000 service users with sight loss and wide-ranging disabilities.

Recalls Liz: “Despite the extreme weather, there was a great team spirit throughout. Lashed by hail stones at the top of Pen y Ghent and having enjoyed a short spell of sunshine, our group then had to wait for thunder and lightning to pass while drenched by torrential rain before ascending Whernside – not to mention raging winds at the top of Ingleborough, the final hurdle.

“There are 250 people who start to lose their sight every day and, although the challenge was hard going, it was enormously satisfying to know we are enabling more people with sight loss and other disabilities to lead a fulfilling life.”

Gemma Young, Henshaws Fundraising Development Manager, said: “This was no mean feat. Well done to Liz and fellow walkers for persevering through the elements for those who most need our support including young people with profound and multiple learning and physical difficulties.”

We’re toasting a wonderful charity which enhances the quality of life for thousands of people with sight loss and wide-ranging disabilities.

Our latest ‘giving back’ initiative has seen us support a vibrant Beer Festival organised by Henshaws which provides vital assistance to over 7,000 service users.

They include service users who are registered blind or disabled along with young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties, sensory impairments, and other physical disabilities.

Our partnership with Henshaws chimes with Jones Myers’ long-standing and caring ethos of giving back and helping to make a difference.

The firm’s involvement over the past six months has included providing key materials for Henshaws’ disabled Art Makers to continue achieving their potential. Senior Solicitor, Neil Dring, has also put his gardening talents into use as a volunteer at the charity’s Arts & Crafts Centre’s gardens.

Gemma Young, Henshaws Fundraising Development Manager, said:  “More than 850 visitors attended the Beer Festival at our Arts & Crafts Centre which raised over £12,000. An enormous ‘thank you’ to our valuable sponsors including Jones Myers – and everyone who contributed to, and attended, the successful event.

Acknowledging achievements and helping to fulfil the goals and aspirations of the next generation has been a long-standing priority of our niche family law firm.

This commitment includes setting up the Jones Myers Prize for the Best Overall Performance on Master of Laws of England and Wales to a Leeds Law School student since 2020.

Our wider collaboration with the Law School at Leeds Beckett University includes giving our time and skills to support the Law Faculty’s Professional Mentor Scheme and Law Clinics for the past four years.

Jones Myers’ latest project to give back to our local communities sees us helping to further the career aspirations of a tenacious 16-year-old footballer.  

Georgia Sutcliffe, daughter of our Senior Family Law Executive, Anna Sutcliffe, has clinched a coveted team position with York City Ladies FC for the next two years after overcoming tough challenges.  

The team competes in the FA Women’s National League Division One North – the fourth tier in the women’s football system following a recent promotion.

Georgia’s achievement is even more laudable after she sustained a serious knee injury in 2020. The injury required an anterior cruciate ligament operation and significant rehabilitation which prevented her playing for 12 months.

Said Anna: “Georgia has been fanatical about football since she was two. Her injury was the worst that football players can suffer and we’re buzzing with her prestigious appointment.

“Jones Myers has previously provided Georgia’s kit during her involvement with York City FC Foundation Regional Talent Club which was key to developing her potential.

“The firm’s latest backing with strip and additional support at such a formative period is very much appreciated. I feel very lucky that they are helping to shape Georgia’s future dreams and plans while she continues her sixth form studies.”
