The latest in our series of blogs to provide support and advice through the continuing coronavirus crisis focuses on the importance of keeping communication channels open for divorcing and separating couples.

Relationship breakdowns are understandably stressful and emotionally traumatic at any time.

The current unprecedented pandemic has further exacerbated the challenges facing estranged couples and parents beset with fears of job losses, concerns over co-parenting and child arrangements – and maintenance and financial issues.

With courts only operating for urgent cases, Jones Myers specialist lawyers are working with estranged couples to ensure they keep talking – and striving for the best solution for their individual situation.

Our remote working capabilities enable us to continue to work effectively, conducting court hearings and confidential consultations so cases can be heard and processed in a timely manner.

We are likewise applying our extensive expertise in alternative dispute resolution – ways of resolving divorces without going to court – via arbitration hearings and mediation with new and existing clients.

Jones Myers partner Nicki Mitchell a skilled mediator and collaborative family lawyer says: “Our highly experienced collaborative family lawyers, who include Norman Taylor, are continuing to help clients and their former spouses to work together with their respective lawyers to achieve the right agreement.

“Our founder, Peter Jones, a former Deputy District Judge, is also conducting remote arbitration hearing on cases including financial and property disputes, the break-up of civil partnerships or disputes between cohabitating couples whose relationships have ended.

“In these exceptional circumstances it is more vital than ever that we continue to help them address issues with dignity and in a safe and secure environment so they can remain on good terms and communicate regularly.”

Our ethos to ensure that the interest of children always come first sees our dedicated Children Department continuing to support families that have undergone – or are undergoing – separation and assisting with concerns over the safety of children during the lockdown.

As the pandemic continues, we are reacting quickly to provide urgent legal advice to those who need it in these difficult times – and especially to victims of domestic abuse.

Our holistic approach and long-standing partnerships with wide ranging professionals ensure our clients regionally, nationally and internationally have access to counsellors and therapists and to information on issues such as tax advice.
