Our skilled Leeds, Harrogate and York based specialists are adept at dealing with all aspects of Children Law including residence, contact, relocation, child protection, international child abduction and adoption.

Jones Myers is amongst the country’s most respected family law firms. Child protection, which requires balancing the rights of parents but ensuring children are protected from significant harm, is one of the most difficult and complex areas of family law.

Where children are considered at risk of significant harm, a Local Authority can remove them from the home by obtaining a temporary care order on the grounds of concerns for their welfare. An initial hearing will usually be followed by several more until the court makes a final decision, this may take a few months.

How Jones Myers can help

We handle the issues involved when a care order is made with the utmost sensitivity and professionalism. Our highly skilled family lawyers appreciate that parents will be devastated, but that the overriding priority is the children’s welfare and safety.

Our team of acknowledged children law experts can provide legal and practical advice and emotional support to families undergoing the ordeal of court proceedings. We have vast experience in representing and guiding distressed parents and carers from the initial involvement of social workers and going forwards dealing with children and young people’s services.

Our team also advises and assists parents seeking to establish contact with their children who might be subject to a Care Order and on the possibility of a discharge of the Care Order.

Our specialist lawyers frequently represent children in care proceedings on the instructions of Children’s Guardians who have been appointed to ensure the children’s best interests are met.

As a firm with a Legal Aid Contract, we are able to offer legal aid to fund your case in certain circumstances and provided you are eligible. We can quickly make an assessment at a first meeting.
